When I started college back in the fall of 1998, I had a passion and desire to learn more about my culture. I wanted to know more about my Latino heritage, its splendor, and its history. So, like any other curious student, I began to do an abundant amount of research to fully understand the meaning of being Latino.

mam Abdullah Daniel Hernández, known as Abdullah Danny by fellow New Jersey natives, presides over the Pearland Islamic Center in Pearland, Texas, an extension of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH). Imam Abdullah, who converted to Islam in 1999, studied at Al Azhar University in Egypt from 2004-2007, completing five years’ worth of extensive coursework in Islamic Sciences.

Tucked away in a quiet rural neighborhood in Somerset, New Jersey is the brown brick building that houses the New Jersey Chapter of the Islamic Center of North America’s (ICNA) WhyIslam Project. Within its confines, in a second floor office with rose-colored walls, sits the administrative assistant and only female employee of the department, Nahela Morales.

Al pensar en artes marciales, mucha gente inmediatamente se imaginan a Bruce Lee o a Chuck Norris, y al pensar en un musulmán, lo que se les viene a la mente es alguien árabe. ¿Pero qué tal un musulmán latino que también es artista marcial?

A primera instancia de aceptar el Islam, un nuevo musulmán siente una sensación de enorme alegría, orgullo y entusiasmo.

Soy un latino que también es musulmán, lo que todavía es una anomalía aquí en los Estados Unidos.

El 11 de octubre de 2005 fue una noche histórica en la ciudad de Nueva York donde musulmanes y no musulmanes se reunieron como una entidad para discutir eventos no contados de la cultura latina.
